At Ciempiés, we see diversity—social, cultural, ethnical/racial, of gender identity, of sexual orientation, of lived experiences—as an asset with a huge potential to enrich ourselves and each other. We wish to help spreading culture and information, to elevate other voices within the publishing sector, and to assert the value of—irreplaceable and indispensable—human factor in literary creation and translation. However, we are aware that democratization of knowledge would be higher with the deployment of accessibility best practices, for instance for people with dyslexia and low vision.

That’s what our Clásicos Accesibles (“Accessible Classics”) collection is all about. In this collection, we will publish new Spanish translations of public-domain books which are a part of the world’s heritage, and first translations of books and authors we want to rescue from oblivion. All this, with an accessibility-oriented design.

On the other hand, Libros del Ciempiés will also publish the work of people who, otherwise, would not find a place in the publishing landscape—a market increasingly focused on renowned, proven authors or best-selling topics. Typically, with an unfair profit sharing, where authors, more often than not, receive just a small share of the money resulting from their creative efforts.

That’s our two-fold motivation: to have more and diverse voices, and that more people can read them.

Lunes o martes
